Question:

Piercings while surfing?

I just learned to surf and absolutely love it. However, I have 7 piercings - nose, bellybutton, ears, cartilage. I'm not so worried about my ears or cartilage, but my nose and bellybutton. Should I take them out before I go out to surf? or put band-aids over them? Will the wax irritate them? and how should I clean them after a day of surfing?

  1. I think bellybutton would be the only one that you need to worry about. because it would come in contact with the board.

  2. i think u should take them off (i am a surfer myself) they might damage your board

  3. Yes, take them out. I don't even want to think about them getting ripped out if you have a bad fall- OUCH LOL

  4. I'd leave them in.  When I had piercings they were always healthiest when I was in the ocean everyday.

I never had any problems until I moved back to school in the fall.

  5. it all depends on if they bother you at all, especially the belly botton ring. if you surf and it rubs then yes you should probably take it out. As with cleaning etc. taking a shower should take care of this unless you go to some nasty beach. the salt water however might cause your rings to corrode faster than fresh water so you might want to consider that. overall most people dont take them out unless it causes obvious discomfort, and if thats the case then you should know your going to have to take them out.

  6. take them out

  7. Take them out for sure. My buddy Corey and I went surfing last week and he forgot to take out his **** ring, not a good thing.

  8. My daughter has a bellybutton ring and doesn't take it out to surf.  I don't think she has had any issues with it.  You might want to wear one that us simple and with no holes or anything in it which could accumulate wax.  I guess if you got some wax in it just wipe it off as good as you can before you take it out.  You can use something like a washcloth with some citrus based cleaner on it to dissolve the wax.
