Collina, UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer, has given his support to the decision undertaken by FIFA to introduce goal-line technology into the game of football.
The Italian has always been in favour of introducing technology into the modern games, as there is a lot at stake. With the introduction of technology, many controversial decisions could be overturned.
When Collina was quizzed about his opinion over technology entering into the game of football, the former referee had gone on to state that he would be presenting his opinions and proposals to IFAB.
His ideology seems to have struck a chord with the international football rules governing body, who have stated their intent on implementing goal-line officials on a wider basis.
UEFA conducted trials for this idea and used their tournaments to test how this idea worked, they had goal-line referees in the recently held European Championships in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983, the Europa League and the UEFA Champions
League.
There have been many controversial goals awarded, which have been suspect to have cleared the line or not. A few instances could be quoted like Luis Garcia’s goal for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the Champions League semi-final
which proved to be the decisive goal. Liverpool went on to lift the trophy in the same year.
Another instant happened when Frank Lampard’s goal was disallowed against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. The ball had cleared the line, however, the referee judged the ball not to have crossed the line.
These incidents are just two of many incidents and created huge uproar from the affected parties, who felt hard done by the decisions. Collina feels that the inclusion of assistance for referees would provide with less controversial
decisions. They could also help out the decisions of awarding penalties to the guilty party.
The former referee went on to state:
“The trials on goal-line referees, as strongly desired by UEFA, have yielded significant results and the decision from the IFAB to pass from this stage to the final one is a definitive demonstration.”
The UEFA chief was talking to Sky Sport 24 and during his interview, he went on to state that he was very happy with the decision made.
