The french mathematician pierre fermat is most famous for his last theorem x^n+y^n=z^n. Has his theory been proven yet?

What exactly was his theory meant to be for and who uses it?

I need to know ASAP!!

  1. Actually, his theorem was that x^n+y^n does NOT = z^n, for n greater than 2 and n, x, y, z all integers.

    This was finally proved by Andrew Wiles in 1995.  He had given a "proof" in 1993, but it had a gap that took him and his students over a year to fill in.

    It is important in the study of abstract math and number theory, and can be applied to the study of encryption.
