Pierre-Hugues Herbert stuns Andis Juska in the first round – Orleans Challenger 2011
Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France squared-off against the Latvian Andis Juska in the first round of the Orleans Challenger, hosted in France, on Tuesday October 18th. It was the first meeting between the two players which
ended in sub-standard loss for the 26-year-old, Latvian, who lost the match in straight sets with a score of 6-1 and 6-3. The short lived encounter just lasted of fifty minutes.
The terrible performance in the match was inevitable considering the murky form of Juska; lost five of his last nine matches. His opponent was completely on fire having won eight of his last nine encounters. It was clear that 20-year-old,
Herbert, would knock-off any competitor on his day and that’s’ exactly what happened. Crowd gathered in numbers to support their national talent and help him place a berth in the draws for the next round.
French was terrific with his serves; registering exceptional 100% first serve success rate and following it up with another exhilarating 71% second serve success rate in the first set. He earned majestic thirteen opportunities
for breaking his opponent’s serve but he could only capitalize on just three of them; that was good enough to have a thumping first set triumph. He won 37 points in total from the total of 58 played; tortured his opponent physically as well as mentally.
The only good point about Juska’s games was 64% first serve success rate; apart from that there was nothing on the score sheet as well as witnessed by the crowd that would lift up the spirits of the Latvian. First set hammering
had a major effect on the second set game play of Juska who couldn’t wipe out the scary memories and have a fresh start.
Second set was relatively better but nothing more than a mere consolation for the Latvian. He won three games; won two break points and registered an impressive 69% first serve success rate. Rest, it was all about the French local
boy who delighted the crowd with his tremendous game.
Herbert’s stunning 100% first serve success rate was carried forward in the second as well. Second serve success rate of 67% was also impressive but the most exciting part of the game was when he broke his opponent’s serve and
then won his next game as well that registered eight successive points for the French.
That short period of absolutely outstanding display of all round shots raised the crowd on their feet who applauded their local boy. Juska also applauded the stunning display from the youngster and he waved back to his fans with
utmost delight and contentment.
Pierre-Hugues Herbert is now set to face his country mate, Mathieu Rodrigues, in the second round of the tournament.
