Pierre Rolland recovering after the Tour du Haut Var crash
Pierre Rolland of Team Europcar has now returned to professional cycling after suffering from a knee injury.
The wound came during the Tour du Haut Var as the cyclist banged his right knee against a stem.
He made several attempts and returned to peloton during the Circuit de la Sarthe and the Paris-Camembert but could not find the right form.
The accident prevented him from riding the Paris-Nice 2012, but he is now ready to make an appearance in the coming part of the season.
Pierre told L’Equipe, “As regards my knee, the problem is definitely solved”.
"I don't feel any pain anymore. That was my big satisfaction last week at Sarthe: in the evenings, after 200 kilometres, I felt no pain anymore".
"I didn't push too hard during training in order not to trigger pain. Now, I'll be able to do some specific training sets on the rollers. I realised I lost quite a lot of power".
"I wanted to come back fast but it backlashed: I was vulnerable and I caught a virus. But my form is coming back slowly".
Pierre rode for the amateur sides, Team Super Sport 35 (2005) and Team Credit Agricole (stagiaire) (2006) before joining the professional team.
He accepted an offer from the side, Team Credit Agricole in 2007 as his first professional team and stayed with the team till the end of 2008.
Rolland joined the French side, Team Europcar in 2009 and is continuing for the third consecutive season with the team.
The 25-year-old opened his 2012 winning account at the third stage of the Etoile de Besseges and the injury made it very difficult for him to grab more wins.
Pierre had a terrific past season and his main performance came during the Tour de France 2011.
He claimed the 19th stage during the event and also achieved the 10th overall spot after the final general classifications.
The French was declared as the best young rider of the race and was awarded with the white jersey during the 2011 version of the French Grand Tour.
He is now aiming at the Tour de France 2012 and with still three months to go, he has enough time to fine- tune for the coming event.
Rolland will now be seen in action at the Giro del Trentino scheduled from April 17-20 and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege on April 22nd.
