Pierrick Fedrigo optimistic for the 2012 season
Pierrick Fedrigo missed most of the previous season because of illness. The cyclist was unlucky to have the Lyme disease during the last season and is confident to make a strong come back in 2012.
He joined Team FDJ in 2011. Despite the illness, he managed to secure the second position at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal.
Pierrick also claimed the second position at the GP de Plumelec-Morbihan and finished fourth overall at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
The Frenchman started his professional career with Team Credit Agricole in 2002 and represented the team for a period of three years.
He accepted an offer from Team Europcar and continued his endeavours with the French team.
Some of the major wins of his career include 3 stages of the Tour de France, overall win at the Four Days of Dunkirk 2005.
He won the Tour du Limousin throughout 2005-2007 and also claimed the National Road Race Championships 2005.
The cyclist is optimistic to regain his lost glory and bag some more victories early during the season. He briefed that the illness gave him enough time to relax and made him mentally stronger.
He told L’Equipe, "I'm very excited to race and I really want to win again. Last season showed me that you also have to go through difficult periods in order to grow and step up. I felt that I was below par and that I wouldn't win”.
He further added, “Perhaps I needed [the illness] to get out of my routine. Before, I didn't dare to attack and I regretted it afterwards. Now, I want to go for it and not look at the other riders anymore".
Fedrigo will start his 2012 campaign at the Etoile de Besseges and he is also interested to ride the Tour de Haut-Var, Loire-Atlantique Cholet, Paris-Nice and the Criterium International.
The 33-year-old is looking ahead to make up for the lost time and he is optimistic to claim stages at the Tour de France 2012.
Only time will tell if Fedrigo can bag some wins during the coming season and there are certainly no doubts about his abilities to be at the top.
