Pieter Taselaar and Nick Thompson grab lead of 2012 Melges 32 US Championship
Start of the 2012 Melges 32 US Championship was outstanding with the sun shining and strong winds. The fleet started the first day race proceedings under ideal breeze and completed three scheduled races. The regatta is one of the tussling events because
the fleet line up contains top names of the Melges 32 class.
The winds were blowing from 10 to 12 knots which was enough for the participants to complete the scheduled races. The first regatta of the eight-part series will produce interesting sailing displays because the wind conditions are expected to stay the same
until the finish of the event.
Pieter Taselaar and Nick Thompson displayed some outstanding sailing skills from the very start and were able to claim the leading podium place with 15 points.
The first two races were superb for him as he cruised into two bullet finishes while the third race did not finish according to his hopes. He crossed the finish line on the 13th position in the third race but still he managed to make it on top
of the fleet standings.
Ryan DeVos and Ed Baird claimed the second podium finish with 17 points after clinching a fifth, second and 10th position in the scheduled three races of the day. In the upcoming races, DeVos can challenge Taselaar for the first podium because
the sailor is in good shape.
