PSV's defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erik-Pieters-c12766 has expressed his desire to play for Newcastle United and is willing to make a summer move to the Sports Direct Arena, according to the player’s agent.
The Holland International is a close friend of the Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul, who is also his international compatriot. Even though the Toon have not made any formal approach for the player as yet, his agent confirmed that he is really excited on the prospect of playing for the English side.
"Newcastle United is a fantastic club and I know that Erik follows them because of his friendship with Tim Krul.” agent Piet van der Pol told the Newcastle Journal.
However, Van der Pol revealed that the 23-year old left back has currently set his focus on recovering from a foot injury, in order to confirm his availability in the upcoming Euro 2012 in summer.
“If they come in for Erik of course he will be interested in talking to them, but right now the main thing that he is focused on is getting fit for Euro 2012.” He added.
Pieters joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 in July 2008 for an estimated fee of about 2.5 million Euros. Since then, he has made 84 appearances for the Dutch side but is yet to score his first goal for the club.
The player suffered a knee injury during an International fixture, which further exacerbated in a league game against Ajax last month.
Last year, the Dutchman was linked to a possible transfer to Newcastle, following Jose Enrique’s move to Anfield. However, nothing became of the deal and the Magpies signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Davide-Santon-c10658 instead.
Newcastle have enjoyed a successful current season under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew and Van der Pol admitted that the Magpies are likely to attract scores of new players in the summer.
He remarked, “Newcastle have done tremendously this season and I know that there are a lot of players who would like to join them.”
Despite their impressive Premier League campaign this season, the Toon are still keeping close tabs on the Dutchman, as he can play the dual role of a defender and a midfielder.
