Pietersen overlooked for India Tests as Nick Compton gets maiden call – Cricket News Update
Kevin Pietersen’s exile from the England team continues as the ECB selectors left him out of the Test squad for the tour of India, while uncapped batsmen Nick Compton and Joe Root have both been included in the 16-man touring party, which leaves for India later next month.
Pietersen’s exclusion from the list of centrally contracted players last week was a clear indication that the problem still exists between the batsman and his adopted board. This was further confirmed by the ECB after snubbing the Natal-born promising batsman for the crucial itinerary, in which the Poms will be also without likes of top-order batsman Andrew Strauss, who retired from all cricket last month.
The managing director of England Cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hugh-Morris-c63550 told media reporters on Tuesday that the England and Wales Cricket Board management has had discussions with Pietersen but both the parties are yet to reach an agreement.
"Both ECB and England team management have had meetings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757,” Morris said at the press-conference called up to announce the Test squad.
“These discussions remain private and confidential and, as there are issues still to be resolved, Kevin has not been considered for selection for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 tour," he added further.
About the selection of debutant Compton and Root, national selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Miller-c58870 said that duo earned selectors’ nod based on their impressive performances in the county championship this season.
"Nick Compton has performed well consistently for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 in county cricket this season," the national selector said. "Root is a player who has been successful at every level...he deserves this opportunity to step up to the next level and press his case for a place in the Test side," he added further.
