Pigment colour and photosynthesis of leaves?

why are :

coleus leaf, a red leaf and red leaves of plum, different to each other in pigment and photosynthesis?

  1. Don't be confused by the red pigment.  This is an anthocyanin pigment and is not involved in photosynthesis.

    The true photosynthetic pigments are chlorophyll (green) and carotenoids (orange).  The roles played by these pigments are quite similar among all photosynthetic organisms.
