I recently drove through Bath in Somerset while traveling to Poole. I noticed that there were a lot of either pot, stone or metal decorated Pigs on the street corners - I visited Bath about 4 years ago and don't recall them being there then, can anyone enlighten me please?

  1. Businesses in Bath area were invited to commission artists to decorate a life size, fibreglass pig sculpture. The 100 pigs displayed in prominent places around Bath until October auctioning with proceeds given to Sustrans. The aim is to bring arts and businesses together, promote local artists and enrich Bath's art involment.

The reason for choosing the pig is because the legend has it that Bath was founded on the site where King Bladud discovered his pigs bathing in the mud which healed their skin and his leprosy.

  2. The age of spiritual pignorance and darkness exalts the killer of God and his humanity. England rewards its piggies with divinations of pig manifestation in statue form. Atheism and anythingism is lauded by piggies especially here in pigland where they have grown in stature, the primary example being the glorification of head piggy the praying mantis that is Camilla. New wonders await little pigs in both pink and black hue, and even the whitewashed ******* endorse and laud the little pigs much pompous from their victory, whilst america carries the partially deserved defamation slur of being primal aggressors of peace, the spectacle of the big bad wolf and his legion of piggies literally blowing Gods house down.

  3. Pigs are just so amazingly cool :D

  4. Pigs are a symbol of Good Fortune or it could be some sort of Festival.

  5. Oh dear... time for bed me thinks! I thought you meant pigs in a bath, havin a wash! lol Luckily I read on and found it QI so there ya go. thanks for askin, I have learnt something

  6. This site tells you all about it.

    http://www.kingbladudspigs.org/

  7. It was an art display, gone now.

  8. Pigs are important in Bath as it is legend that King Bladud had pigs and these went off and by wallowing in the hot mud in Bath, they became resistant to skin diseases. Hence Bath's prosperity as a spa town.

The current display is an art festival and all the exhibits are going to be auctioned off for charity later.

  9. Well there area lot of pig farms up on the A303, however, I believe its actually an alternative pig movement. Pigs in Blankets have always been the most well know Pig terrorists, however over the past few years they have lost the public support afforded them in the early 60's and now are more well known for as a tasty christmassy snack. Pigs in Bath are trying to go for the new cleaner look and a chance to appeal to the public to get their views across. As I understand it Pigs in Bath are putting out the message that Pork ( whilst very tasty ) is not that good for you and are trying to covince the public to seek alternative food sources.  I know there was a recent public meeting of pigs in the area, so you may have seen the local traders playing to the market.

I may be wrong... hope this helps
