Pilgrims Rest set for return to winning ways in Wildwood Golf And Country Club Handicap at Sandown
Pilgrims Rest has recently shown plenty of good form. He is currently off a fair mark, and can add the required finishing touch to win the Wildwood Golf And Country Club Handicap, to be held at Sandown on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
Trained by Richard Hannon, the 3-year-old has multiple things in favour, including a very good run in defeat in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot early in the season. He has done reasonably well at the higher levels in the past, thus today’s class
4 should be an easy outing for him.
Owned by Markus Jooste & Bernard Kantor, the young colt made a few wonderful trips in defeat recently. After suffering a terrible loss at Goodwood, the son of Rock Of Gibraltar improved his game to ensure fourth place at Newmarket in mid August.
Bred by Annalee Bloodstock & Rockhart Trading Ltd, the maverick runner was even better at Wolverhampton in the beginning of this month. The class 4 Wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Handicap was a very tough competition, but Pilgrims Rest easily seized the
fourth place.
It was no more than an unlucky day for him, as he missed the podium only by a head’s distance. The colt started off this season with a couple of fantastic victories, but has been struggling since then.
Today’s contest is an ideal opportunity for him to finish on top of the table. He will face a dozen quality horses in the 1m2f7y contest. Returning to this distance will also help him regain winning momentum. The officials will ring the starting bells at
17:35 GMT. The going is good to firm for the crucial battle, which carries a cash prize worth £5,175.
Sunnybridge Boy heads the list of dangers, ahead of Royal Dutch. After his maiden win, the former has more to offer, and will like this trip. Royal Dutch is upped 9lb following a comprehensive triumph at Lingfield. There is certainly more to come from his
side.
Pilgrims Rest has a long list of threats to tackle. Sunnybridge Boy will surely make things tricky, but one can easily expect Pilgrims Rest to outpace him. Good luck to all the horses.
