If I start taking the pill right after I give Birth what will happen?

I would like to start taking the Pill right after I give birth.

Are there any side effects? I will be breast feeding.

Will affect the flow or is it useless anyway?

Im not planning on having s*x till after the six week period but I want to get into the habit of taking the pill again.

Advice from experienced moms and doctors and nurses apreciated.

  1. after the first six weeks is when the doc prescribed my pills

  2. You are supposed to wait until your 6 week check up to even discuss it with the doc.

  3. you may not be able to go on the pill if you are breastfeeding, i know your birth control options are limited when BF, i wasn't intending to go on the pill so i wasn;t really paying much attention at my post natal when it was brought up but i do recall her saying if i wanted a BC method the fact that i was BF was going to limit my options

  4. Doctors will usually not prescribe or give ANY type of birth control until the 6 week checkup.  You body and hormones need a chance to get back to normal before you add more hormones on top of it.

Ask your doctor at your next appointment, especially since you are planning on breastfeeding.  Some pills can effect your supply.  Sometimes they will put you on a "mini pill

  5. Well i started taking mine after the first 6 weeks, and at my 6 weeks appointment my doctor prescribed a birth control pill for breast feeding mothers. So wait till that appointment and let your doc know that you are breast feeding to get you on the right pill. remember everything you take goes into your breast milk and then into your baby.
