  1. Wherever in the world you are going, do not listen to people who say your medication will be confiscated from your carry-on luggage.  That is patently untrue.  Put any prescription and non prescription medication you need in your carry-on bag, because your checked luggage could be lost and take a while to catch up to you.  Your prescription medication should be in pharmacy-labeled bottles with your correct name and physician's name on the labels.

As for cigarettes, I have heard of cigarettes and money being stolen from checked bags, so you may want to take them with you in your carry-on luggage.  Better yet, quit smoking and leave them behind.

  2. you can carry your cigarette. But they will check you for your pills so just leave it in your luggage or just both in luggage.

  3. The cigarettes are fine in both the luggage and in the carry-on. My father brought some with him from Iraq, so I know for a fact they'll be fine. They'll be ok in your carry on, too, but it'll be kinda useless since you can't smoke in an airport or take a lighter or matches with you. Pills, however, I would advise to keep in your luggage - they will confiscate those.

  4. If you need the pills for a medical condition then I would carry them on because what if the airline loses your luggage and then you won't have your pills. You can't smoke on the plane so you might as well put them in your luggage.

    Edit

My boss travels by plane at least once a month and says they never give him problems with his meds. Also my best friend just took a plane trip to go get her sister and she had to bring her sisters meds with her which one of the meds included a syringe plus she had her own meds and they never gave her a problem

  5. Take anything with you in your carry-on that you cannot live without.  Everything in your checked bag will be searched, and the inspectors are not immune to pilfering any medications they might want to keep: sleeping pills, pain meds, anti-depressants.  If you need your meds bring them on the plane in your carry-on.  Keep them in the original containers with the doctor's name and your name on the bottle, just as a precaution.  Ordinarily, no one is looking for pills unless they find them in some enormous quantity.

With the price of cigarettes being so high, I'd put them in the carry-on as well...but since my dad died of lung cancer, I'd advise you to drop this habit as soon as humanly possible.

  6. no problem with cigarrettes but as for the pills, make sure they are prescribed to your name and well label-ed. That said.. it may still delay and make your trip unpleasant when you have to explain yourself to security :(
