I everyone, Im currently healing up from a Pilonidal Cyst drainage, he surgeon recommended, actually he sounded like he was forcing me, to get an excision. He also said he "guarenteed" that my infection would come back....whats the % of infections that usually return?

Im curious about how the procedure goes, the pain, the recovery time, becuase i have school in the next 2 weeks and I dont want to have to recover for 2 months and miss alot.

So please any answers are helpful :)

  1. I feel your pain. My Pilonidal Cyst dominated my high school life. Mine was so large it made it into medical journals. My first operation took 6 months to heal after a rather nasty little infection. The mass of tissue they removed was that equal to the size of a grape fruit.

Most Dr's will strongly recommend surgery. There are very few things other than surgery you can do. I have searched high and low for alternatives.

But what i did find that helps greatly is hot baths, as hot as you can stand it. With a cup full of salt in the water. The salt keeps the wound clean and will help remove infections.

I also highly recommend not returning to normal activity before your recommended recovery time. I made that mistake and ended up in hospital less then a year later after i "healed".

Sit in short spells if able stand up for a few mins every half hour when at school.

N buy a towel to dry that pacific area, and dry it well. Moisture does not go well with it.

Good luck i hope all goes well with your recovery.
