Pilot Pen Tennis tournament 2010: Wozniacki wins

The top seeded tennis ace, Marcos Baghdatis battled back from a poor opening to knock down Juan Ignacio Chela and make his way into the quarter final round of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Heaven on Wednesday.
The Cypriot didn’t play well during the opening set of the match against the Argentinean tennis ace, Juan Ignacio Chela, and thus couldn’t win a single service game as he was down at 6-1.
However, he regrouped to comprehensively win the next two sets 6-3 6-2 and won the match.
In other action on Wednesday, Andrey Golubev, who is seeded fifth to win the title, was edged out by Teymuraz Gabashvili, a qualifier from Russia in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3 3-6 7-6 (9/7).  
Golubev, however, was not the only seed to be defeated as the eighth seeded German tennis player, Florian Mayer, was dismissed by his twelfth seeded Dutch opponent, Thiemo De Bakker, in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-7 (2/7) 6-1 7-5.
Victor Hanescu, the sixteenth seeded player, also faced an early exit being defeated by Radek Stepanek in a three set clash. The final match score was 7-6 (7/4) 6-7 (4/7) 6-4.
Seventh seed, Alexandr Dolgopolov, on the other hand was beaten by Viktor Troicki, the tenth seeded player in New Heaven on Wednesday.
Evgeny Korolev as well as Denis Istomin, were both victors as they kicked out, Illya Marchenko, and Lukas Lacko respectively.
As far as the women’s side is concerned, all the top seeds won their respective matches including the hot favourite Caroline Wozniacki, who is seeded first for the upcoming US Open. She toppled Dominika Cibulkova in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4 6-1.
Elena Dementieva, the fourth seeded player, was pushed to a total of three sets by Kateryna Bondarenko before going through with a final match score of 7-6 (7/4) 6-7 (7/5) 6-4. Maria Kirilenko claimed a 6-3 6-1 victory over Timea Bacsinszky on Wednesday.
The former grass court Grand Slam finalist as well as the sixth seeded tennis ace from the women’s side, Marion Bartoli, also managed to defeat Anastasia Rodionova in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-3 6-1. Moreover, Dinara Safina, Flavia Pennetta as well as Nadia Petrova also won their respective matches on Wednesday.
As far as the doubles matches are concerned, Nenad Zimonjic along with Daniel Nestor won their opening clash of the Pilot Pen tennis competition on Wednesday. After they got the better of Travis Parrott and Eric Butorac,  in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-2.
Last week’s  ATP Cincinnati Masters finalists Mahesh Bhupathi as well as Max Mirnyi also fought through with a 3-6, 7-6(1), 10-4 victory over Michal Mertinak  as well as Frantisek Cermak .
The third as well as the fourth seeded teams both lost in their opening round matches. The grass court Grand Slam finalists, Robert Lindstedt, along with Horia Tecau survived against the third ranked Oliver Marach as well as Lukasz Kubot in a total of three sets. The final match score was 5-7, 6-1, 10-7, where as Rohan Bopanna along with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi did well to upset Polish pair Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.
The Belgian- South African duo, d**k Norman and Wesley Moodie, who reached the semi final of the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament, last week, easily breezed into the next round. They got the better of Marc Powers and Nolan Paige in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2.
