She said she spent a total of four complete weeks after injuring her left calf muscle two months ago at the clay court French Open tennis tournament, and it has taken her some time to feel at home on the hard courts of America.
“I wanted to contest in the summer matches in order to boost up my confidence level and to get familiar with the surface prior to the United States Open tennis tournament”, she said. “However sadly, I failed to do so”.
She spent a lot of time on the court on Wednesday, playing for a period of over three hours in a match that highlighted a total of thirteen service breaks.

“Right from the start of my professional career, it was one of my strongest weapons, however because of my injury I was struggling a little bit,” she said. “Any how the good thing is that slowly I am getting my form back,” added Safina, after the match on Wednesday.
