Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010: Nadia Petrova and Denis Istomin make the final
The Russian tennis player, Nadia Petrova took full advantage of her wild card entry to the field at the Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010, advancing into the final with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Maria Kirilenko in New Heaven on Friday.
Maria broke Petrova on two occasions during the first set of the match however said that due to pain in her back after the first set, the Russian couldn’t concentrate on her game and in the end lost it.
“Despite feeling pain, I didn’t give up and decided to continue till the end and thus did well to stay on the court throughout the match,” said Maria after the match.
Kirilenko further added that she would decide her participation at the Flushing Meadows after consulting a doctor.
Petrova on the other hand, despite being down in the first set, found her rhythm and never looked back after the second set of the match.
“I observed that Maria had issues while moving freely on the court,” said Nadia. “Therefore it was my first aim, to constantly keep her running all around the court and make her feel more fatigued and tired to play her natural game.”
Nadia was given a wild card entry to the championship after Ana Ivanovic pulled out of the competition last week as a result of injury. She made full use of the opportunity and reached the final round of the tournament on the very first occasion since 2008.
As a result of this victory, Nadia Petrova will take on the hot favourite tennis ace at the Flushing Meadows, Caroline Wozniacki, who hammered down the fourth seeded Elena Dementieva in her semi final clash of the Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010 in a total of three sets. The final match score was 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
In the men’s section, Sergiy Stakhovsky made his way into the title battle after getting the better of Thiemo de Bakker from Netherlands in a total of two sets on Friday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
The ninth seeded tennis ace from the men’s side, Sergiy did well to break de Bakker again during the seventh game of the second set on Friday.
Stakhovsky has so far contested in a total of four semi final matches in his career and has luckily triumphed in all of them. The Ukrainian is 3-0 in the finals.
“I will try my level best to win the title this season at the Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010 in new Heaven,” said Stakhovsky.
As a result of this victory, Stakhovsky will face Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan in the title battle. He made his way into the final round after defeating Viktor Troicki from Serbia in a total of three sets on Friday. The final match score was 7-6 (10), 3-6, 6-2.
The top ranked Uzbek tennis ace Denis Istomin saved a total of four match points in his yesterday’s semi final match of the Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010 in New Heaven.
The tenth seeded Viktor battled back during the second set of the semi final clash, securing two break points of Istomin’s serve and looked to be on his way to a victory early during the third set of the match. However, Denis Istomin immediately fought back and won a total of three break points to confirm his spot in the final round of the New Heaven tennis competition. The Uzbek tennis star finished off the clash at 5-2 in the third set of the match in style.
The forty six ranked tennis star, fired a total of eight aces and grabbed almost sixty one percent of his second serve return points in his yesterday’s match in New Heaven.
