Pilot Pen tennis competition 2010 highlights
The Professional tennis player from the United States of America, Melanie Oudin was dismissed by Dominka Cibulkova in the first round of the Pilot Pen tennis competition on Monday in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
As a result of this victory, Cibulkova will face two-time winner Caroline Wozniacki in the second round of the Pilot Pen tennis tournament 2010.
Oudin after the match said, “A year ago I had no pressure as I was just nobody in the eyes of the public and, therefore I was free from the heavy burden of expectations. However this year it’s a totally different story here. Everyone not only knows me completely well but is expecting a lot from me as well.”
Melanie further added that she is still the youngest American female player ranked in the top hundred, and said that she is quite satisfied with the way she has been playing over the last few months. Her game has definitely improved without any question.
“Everyone has a different journey. There is no doubt about the fact that I got popular at such a young age. I tried harder and struggled more than the rest as well,” chirped the happy star.
In an another action on Monday, the Russian tennis ace, Dinara Safina upset the clay court French Open winner Francesca Schiavone in a total of three sets in New Heaven. The final match score was 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Nadia Petrova on the other hand, also advanced after being down one set and 5-2 during the second to knock down her American opponent, Varvara Lepchenko in a three-setter clash. The final match score was 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Safina’s victory came less than a total of seven days after she was eliminated by Schiavone in straight sets in Montreal. Her game has been affected all season as a result of back injury.
“When you fall down in a match, you say, ‘man, I wish I could replay this clash to fight for one more time to do the things in a different manner,” ’said Safina. “And thank God I got this opportunity to face Schiavone here.”
Nadia Petrova was a late addition to the court after an ankle injury pulled Ana Ivanovic to retire from her opening match on Monday.
“It has been a great opportunity as I feel like I should play a couple of matches prior to the United States Open tennis tournament,” said the Russian after the match.
Elena Dementievan, on the other hand also won her first round match after defeating her Spaniard opponent Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in a total of two sets in New Heaven. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2.
Elena after the match said, “I am feeling great after winning this match, as I was fortunate enough to be second and finish the game in the end.’
In the men’s section, two time tournament winner, James Blake got the better of Pere Riba from Spain in a two-setter clash in a time period of just thirty five minutes on Monday. The final match score was 6-0, 6-1. It was the quickest completed clash on the ATP Tour this year.
“I always look to finish off the match quickly,” Blake said.
His compatriot fellow Donald Young also had a comfortable first round victory over her French opponent Stephane Robert on Monday. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2. Taylor Dent also managed to beat Eduardo Schwank from Argentina in a three setter clash. The final match score was 7-6, 4-6, 6-0.
