Pilot light out on boiler?

ok so my pilot light is out on my boiler but when i turn the heating up it auto ignites when its needed. it is a gas boiler with electric ignition. should my pilot light be on 24/7 or is it normal for it to go out when there is no need for the boiler to be heating anything ? regards

  1. No my boiler does not have a pilot on for 24/7 . lights when needed, when hot tap is turned on or when heating is switched on and timer and thermostat are operating .  


  2. must be a new style boiler, as long as it works leave alone, ask the engineer when the routine maintenance is done.

  5. If you have electronic ignition, you don't have a standing pilot. It ignites, proves itself, and ignites the main burner on each cycle.

  6. most newer boilers use electronic ignition when it needs to start up.

    That is the Click click click you hear when it starts up.


  7. The boiler has electronic ignition which means it doesn't require a pilot light. Hence the reason you can't see one. It's perfectly normal.

  8. If your "boiler" is your hot water heater check or replace the thermocouple.

    most combination boilers are the same turn on the hot water tap
