To bring that plane down with no power, within the airport grounds and get all passengers off without a major injury.

Well done, thats a true hero, not a stupid sports personality who runs round a field.

  1. OK, the pilot may have done well to get them all off safely.....but isn't this the kind of incident in which they are fully trained on.

Can I have an OBE for doing my job please?

  2. this is not a joke,or flying paper plane

if it was an emergency, why the atc wasn

    t notified?

    thanks god there weren't casualties

human error are 80%of the aircrash

  3. hi it was the co pilot that landed the 777 i have just seen them on the TV. But well done to the hole crew getting every one out ok

  4. no,but they deserve to be commended.

  5. I watched the story unfold on sky.Pilots are and always will be classed as heroes in the this situ.Lets not forget they want to save their own lives as well as others.

If it is due to plane error, and he managed to get  the 777 home, then they should receivce all acolades due.

  6. Here!! Here!!! any air crew that bring a plane which is virtually out of control or uncontrollable back to the ground on or near the runway deserve every accolade they get!!!

    Sioux City, Iowa

Massive engine faliure, destroys all the flight controls on a Douglas DC10, the two remaining engines are used to fly the plane home again, the crew get to the runway and have to shut the throttles because they are coming down too fast, the plane cart wheels down the runway and about 130 people perish, it could have been all on board if it wasnt for the pilots skill!!!!

Cause: a microscopic crack in the fan disc of the engine, causing the disc to shatter!!!

    Southampton, England,

Massive decompression, sucks the captain out of the cockpit, jamming his feet against the control column forcing the plane into a high speed dive, the co-pilot has to fly the plane blind with two members of cabin crew holding on to the captain after having freed his legs, they land the plane safely at Southampton airport and the captain survives!!!

there are several more incidents i could go into but thats for another day!!

  7. The stopping distance of the 777 suggest a massive power loss some 2 miles out or more. The aircraft has a built in secondary sytem to deal with this,it did not operate. The plane had a major heart attack never to recover. It came in as a 150 ton glider in line with the runway. The pilot would have been totally helpless but did a great job in flying his glider to safety. The Airbus has been plagued with software glitches but this was a Boeing this was BA the greatest combination in the world of flying.Take it easy right now they are on their way from Seattle to investigate this incident.

  8. You're jumping the gun a bit aren't you?

Most accidents these days are the result of pilot error, but it could have been wind sheer or a fault on the plane.

There will be a full investigation and no doubt the black boxes will have a story to tell.

Let's just wait for the outcome and give thanks that there were no fatalities.

  9. I don't think so, they're just doing their job, they have 6 monthly or yearly simulator details to prepare them for eventuallities just like this.

  10. I will wait until the full results of the investigation before dishing medals out.

  11. Hero is the second most abused word in the English language (after love).

Anyone who is paid to do something they are trained to do (soldiers, firemen, policemen) aren't really heros in my opinion.

A hero is someone who deliberately risks their life or gives their life (it usually involves a bit of stupidity) to save others in a situation they have never faced before or trained for.

The pilots of the Gimli Glider or Air Transat Flight 236 weren't heros either.  Both crews made critical errors which endangered the flight (although skillful handling of the aircraft saved everyone's lives in each case).  We will have to see if the cause of the power loss was pilot error (a double engine failure points to lack of fuel, so probably incorrect fuel load or crew not monitoring fuel gauges).

I have landed an aircraft with no power (engine failure after takeoff and return to the airfield) but I don't consider myself a hero.  I consider myself lucky.  It the result of a stupid decision that I was happy to walk away from.

I do give these guys more kudos than rich professional sports players.

  12. The best safety device in any airplane, is a well trained pilot

  13. No ! The pilot and co-pilot just did what they had been fully trained to do. If everybody was honoured simply for doing their job, then honours simply wouldn't be worth having. Having said that, I'm in awe of the two pilots.

  14. My flight instructor was an ex military transport and ex airline man.  I once asked him what it was like in an emergency, being responsible for all those lives.

    His reply?

" In that situation I am just trying to save my own skin, if I manage to do that, then those sat in the back will be ok also.

Responsibility for the passengers at the time of an emergency is BS".

  15. people are knighted when they do something for their country over long periods of time.. not just for one thing- crash landing.

  16. i was at the airport today, just not on the flight

    the staff wer brill

we got informed on what was going on straight away

thank you to all the staff that was working today

    you saved alot of lives!!

has anyone got a video of it happing by the time we heard or saw anything it had landed
