In india postal department given Pin Codes and not Zip Codes.

Postal Index Number Code (PINCODE) is a 6 digit numberic one and it will be unique for every post offices (not sub post offices) in all locations of India. In India it is divided into 8 postal regions.

The first digit indicates the postal region,

The first 2 digits together indicates the sub region or postal circle.

The first 3 digits together indicates the sorting district of the region.

The last 3 digits indicates the delivery post offices

Zip Code is not applicable to India. Instead Pin Code is applicable. There is no Pin Code for India as such. Pion Codes aeallottedto different places in India.
