I am looking to purchase a Ping G10 driver. What are the differences in the shaft type?

1. Ping TFC129 (standards shaft)

2. Grafalloy ProLaunch

3. Proforce V2

what does torque mean when it comes to drivers?

Thanks for the help.

  1. What is your swing speed, that is one of many important factors in chosing a shaft?  What is your launch angle?  What is the loft of your driver?  Both Graffaloy and Proforce offer different types of shafts based on those 3 factors.  Also, your handicap would be helpful....

  2. I agree...you have to fit those shafts.  Golf Galaxy in my area will fit the shaft for you....put you on the machine and see how you hit the ball.  It cost about 20 bucks and can save you a bunch.

  3. danahn,

The Ping shaft is usually made with the low to mid handicap players in mind, meaning that to get one that fits you properly you would probably have to be a pretty good golfer.

The Grafalloy Prolaunch is a higher torque shaft then the Ping and Proforce V2. The Proforce V2 is another shaft that was designed for lower handicap players, meaning a player that shoots a round of golf in the 70's or low 80's.

Torque is the amount of twist that shaft has when swinging the club. The twist is just like you were holding a wet towel in your hand and wringing out the water. It's the same type of twist only it happens in a golf shaft when you swing it.

The higher the number the more twisting that shaft will do when you swing it.

The lower the number of torque rating, the less that shaft will twist during the swing.

    Hope this helps,

    J

  4. The torque is the amount of tip action you get through the hitting zone. Lower torque shafts are perferred by faster swinging players because they can "bend the tip" more due to the amount of power generated. A torque of 3.5 or more gives the added "kick" that a slower swing speed will need. The extra flex in the tip give a lot of help to added distance and makes the shaft feel "more alive". As for the shafts in question, there are many choices offered my these makers and it is difficult to give a comparison as the shafts may "overlap" in specs depending on the specific type you are looking at. The Grafalloy Red, and V2 will probably give you a lower launch angle. The Grafalloy Blue will probably give the highest ball flight of all.
