Ping announces to sell 5000 pink drivers emulating the one used by Bubba Watson in Masters
Golf equipment manufacturing giant Ping is on a high tide for the moment as Bubba Watson, one of its high profile clients, has gone over to win the sport’s mega event, The Masters, last week.
Watson, who has a long range of Ping clubs and drivers in his bag, is provided with custom made pink drivers on demand by the left-handed golfer.
The company is now contemplating a surge in demand for the pink drivers and has announced that it will be manufacturing 5,000 limited-edition pink G20 drivers and will be putting them on sale from June 1 this year.
The specialised drivers have a pink shaft and a pink titanium head with 9.5-, 10.5-, and 12-degrees of lofts for right-handed players.
Left-handed players, much like Watson himself, will be provided with 10.5-degree. The new range will be available with R, S, and L flexes and women will have the luxury to buy version with 12 degrees of loft.
The demand has observed a giant upsurge after Watson’s victory at Augusta National and the company is hoping to cash in on the recent surge in demand.
Ping CEO John Solheim said in a press release:
"Even prior to his win at the Masters, golfers were requesting pink G20s.Through word of mouth, social media, and phone calls, the interest was extremely high".
"Through word of mouth, social media and phone calls, the interest was extremely high. We want to satisfy that demand while bringing even more visibility to Bubba's goal of raising $1 million".
The exclusive G20 drivers cost around $430 for a single piece and the company has announced that they will be donating around five percent of the profits to Watson’s charity campaign “Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping”.
Watson, who had a phenomenal season last year where he went over to bag two PGA Tour titles, landed his first Masters title last week, when he took over the rampaging Louis Oosthuizen on the second playoff hole.
Known for his penchant for the pink colour, Watson not only uses a pink driver but also wears pink socks apart from many of his possessions which are in pink colour.
Apart from his success on course, Watson launched "Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million" and vows to collect $1-million by the end of the year. The funds will go in cancer research.
