Hey, I am a 25yr old male, who has never had pink eye until now. I have been wearing my glasses instead of my contacts for the past week or so and been using pink eye, eye drops also for the past week, but it seems like the problem is still there. I do not have health insureance......any advice on how to kick the pink eye?

  1. Even if you don't have medical insurance, i would definetly call an Optometrist.  Ask when you call if they have either a cash discount if you pay on the spot or if they will let you pay in installments.

It may not be pink eye, there are many conditions that look/feel similar and it could potentially be something worse.

never risk your eyesight, call and get it looked at ASAP!

  2. Bite the bullet and see an ophthalmologist.

  3. Pinkeye = conjunctivitis (in case you decide to research further) and yep, it sucks.

It doesn't matter if it's bacterial or viral pinkeye, both will heal overtime.

First and foremost, keep the area clean.  Use a sterile eye-wash and a warm washcloth to keep the "goop" out.

Secondly, if your eyes itch get a relieving eye drop specifically for pink-eye (don't use drops like Visine).  These drops (Similasan) are available without a prescription.  Also, while resting, using a warm compress (like a damp washcloth) will help relieve the discomfort.

Also, if the itching gets really bad, take an antihistamine (like Benadryl).  Mostly, make SURE you wash your hands often as conjunctivitis spreads VERY easily (including to your other eye or right back to yourself for a re-infection).

My daughter had pinkeye this winter (she's two).  She ended up having it in both eyes and it took about 10 days for it to totally clear up.

Finally, here is a website that will tell you a bit more.  Of course Google will return plenty, but this site includes an coupon (at the bottom) that you can print off and and get a discount on the eye-drops should you decide to use them.

BTW - these are the same drops my daughter's doctor "prescribed" for her.  They didn't work nearly as well for her as the eye wash and warm compress but each person is different so try them if you think they will help.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  4. if you have been using the drops continuously and it has not gone away, it may just be seasonal allergies. maybe you should try some allergy medication and see if that is helpful or not.
