Pinker Pinker – Winner of last year's Cox Plate 2011
The 2011 Cox Plate will be remembered for a brilliant show by Australian-bred runner, Pinker Pinker, who might be in contention of winning the Group-1 event once again in her career in 2012.
The five-year-old filly was priced 25 to 1 in that event and was not expected to be fighting for the top three positions. However, she surprised one and all with her stamina in the 1 mile 2 furlong event, winning it by one length and one quarter.
Reset’s daughter was not in an ideal position to win that race, as he was held up behind at the start. She needed to press extremely hard in order to bounce back from that position and her jockey, Craig A. Williams, did a very good job overall.
All the spectators back then had no idea whether which runner will end up on top in the end. However, the Greg Eurell’s trainee got the lead towards the ending moments of the event. She remained under immense pressure, but kept her cool to win a cash prize
of £1,209,150.
This was a first major victory for Pinker Pinker, as she had never prevailed in a Group-1 event before. Overall, she has participated in 14 races, winning four of them and finished runner up on three occasions. In addition to that, she has secured the third
spot once, which goes onto show her ability to be competitive.
The Australian filly debuted in September 2010 and took part in three events that year. However, she was unable to make an impression in them and did not finish in the top three even once that season.
Despite that, the talented runner started off the next year on a positive note and won a couple of back to back events at the start. She gained a lot of confidence because of that performance and went onto to deliver solid results throughout 2011. All her
victories came during that season and she ended it with her success in the Cox Plate.
This year, Pinker Pinker has participated in just a couple of events, but failed to win any of them. She seems to be out of touch at the moment, but might bounce back with another victory in the Cox Plate.
