Question:

Pinkish Chicken in College Cafeteria Pineapple Chicken???

Hello, I eat at a college cafeteria twice a day (lucky me...). Today they were serving Pineapple Chicken. When i got to the table, I took a bite of chicken. But, before doing so, I noticed that the little chunks of chicken were slightly pink throughout. I actually ate a few more bites, because I remembered my grandma once telling me that if it is a chicken bake, sometimes the chunks could be pink and safe to eat. I also remember her saying that pineapple could change the color. I now feel like that was a stupid mistake. Should I be worried? This has happened before with another meal at the College Cafetera (Chicken and Dumplings), and "I lived".

  1. Maybe it was the dark meat... I know the thigh meat is cheaper than the breast meat so it would be ideal for institutional use.  When thigh meat is cooked, it is darker and a little pink compared to breast meat.

    I hope you are okay.

  2. As a rule, I don't eat questionable chicken.  I guess you'll soon find out if yours was safe...hope you survive.  If you had this for lunch and are feeling okay at this point, I would think you would be okay.  Good luck.

  3. My dad is a chef and he tells me never to eat something that I do not like the look of or think that it is not right.  I personally would avoid any pinkish chicken.  To me that is not cooked, they always tell us chicken is very dangerous and should be prepared well and cooked well.  Please avoid in the future you don't want to make yourself ill.

  4. Urgh I always freak out about chicken not being cooked, have had food poisoning twice from undercooked chicken, yet I still eat it (I must be mad!)

I won't eat it until it's completely white, even if there's a bit of pink in it, I'll keep cooking it. I've developed a taste for spoiled chicken ;)

Anyway, I hope you're okay! Food poisoning / salmonella ain't nice. You should know by tomorrow, it usually takes around 12-48 hours for symptoms to appear, and they come on suddently. Don't eat pink chicken is far better advice than don't eat yellow snow in my opinion
