Pinnacle Studio 10 editing?

I have downloaded some video off of YouTube. I have them saved in Windows AVI file. I want to take these clips and make a music video. I tried to put these files into the editor. But it won't take it. What can I do? Do I need to convert it? Use another software editor? Help!!
