Pinnacle race track in the state of Michigan will it be a success for horsemen in that state?

The race track in question will be for thoroughbred horses and it's under construction now.

Betting on Pinnacle to be a success is a lot like betting on the longshot to upset the favorite....you need some things to go your way!

Michigan not allowing Slots in the Racetrack hurts....The ownership of Hazel Park gambled big ($16 million expansion) on getting slots and seems to have lost.

Without the added revenue from slots, purses will be low when compared to other venues.  If you look at the Midwest....Indiana has slots at its tracks now, Illinois has quality tracks and Ohio......well Ohio has the twins!!!

However, Pinnacle will be the only game in town for thoroughbreds.  The ownership is very compitent businesswise and they seem to have strong support from not only the City of Romulus, but also Wayne County and the State of Michigan.

If the ownership can pull off the big spring three year old race, with the $5 million bonus for the winner also winning the Kentucky Derby, it will add some imediate quality to the track.  

I have not been able to find a list of Stakes, Handicaps, or Graded Stake races that will be run there, so maybe bringing back the Michigan Mile and a Quarter would be nice!  Or maybe a Thumbsucker Stakes (Thumbsucker was a Michigan Bred who won over $538,000 back in the 1980's).

If they can add a family atmosphere (as they said they are), I believe it will help, but getting quality horses to run there is the key!

Beating the favorite is not easy, but remember that the favorite loses about 2/3 of the time!  So Pinnacle has a fighting chance!

Where is this track located. If in the U.P. I doubt it will pay for itself.
