  1. You are not in 'station' mode but 'setup' mode.

You should read your manual and follow the instructions, then write down the settings you use or if you power off the unit for too-long, it resets to factory defaults.

There are lots of setup options and most of the time you should just use the factory defaults. I would have to re-write your manual for you to explain them all.

I will tell you about a few that are important:

    LEVEL ADJUST

The receiver lets you add/subtract a bit of volume from the center, and each rear speaker. This is because you usually set closer to the center, and the rear speakers. A Radio Shack SPL meter and test tones are used to adjust these properly.

    SPEAKERS: LARGE OR SMALL

If you have a self-powered subwoffer, tell the receiver you have a sub, and define all the other speakers as SMALL.  This will force the receiver to send the power-hungry low frequency signals from all speakers to the sub, and free up power for the other speakers.

    X.OVER 100

Try setting this to 120 hz.  This tells the receiver to send all sounds below 120 hz to the sub and pass along all higher frequency sounds to the speakers.

On the sub - turn the crossover k**b to MAX. You are letting the receiver choose what the sub will use and you dont want the k**b on the sub second-guessing things.
