Pioneer of the "waste-to-energy" process?

I need a pioneer (someone who follows or studies a certain thing) who studies the field of "waste-to-energy."

Waste to energy is the process in which garbage is either incinerated or decomposed into energy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_to_energy is more information on the subject.

I can't seem to find someone who studies this process. I would preferably like a website that gives a short-medium biography of the pioneer, if you can find one.
