Question:

Piped music in pubs - why?

There is a pub near where I go on holiday.

It is a lovely old building, the interior is a delight of old wood and marble, the staff are superb and the beer is excellent.

I would visit it every day, but I cannot stand the place.

Why? Incessant piped music which utterly ruins the place. I go to the pub for conversation or a quiet time.

Why have so many pubs forgotten that they are places for people to talk to each other - not shout over the top of the music?

  1. Apparantly it makes people drink more!

  2. you should make wetherspoons your local lol

  3. I agree, it's so bloody annoying.

    You can either ....

    a) Have a word with the manager/barman who is sure to turn down the music if you ask nicely

    b) go to rubbish Wetherspoons because the only good thing about that place (apart from the nice burgers) is their policy of never playing music because of the exact reasons you so excellently put forward.

    Cheers!

  4. I agree with you also. If there is piped music in a pub I turn around and walk out. No business from me then. I have the same annoyance with shops etc that play music, usually too loud, and it is particularly annoying if it is a genre of music that I do not like. They to lose my business.

  5. I totally agree with you.  Then there is the added horror of the fact that they put one cd on - and it plays on a loop for hour after hour after hour and three days later you go back and its on song no.4 and you just know, its been going and going and going and going.  Infuriating.

I dont suppose you could suggest they turn the music down a bit ?

Or will that get you thrown out?

Luckily for me my daughter is a waitress at our local pub and as she sweeps by the hi fi unit she just tweaks the k**b down.

Someone always tweaks it back up and she tweaks it back down again!

And I dont believe for one minute that it makes you drink more!

Never once have I listened to one of these infernal tapes/cd's and thought 'Gosh!  Get another round in quick!'
