  1. This link will take you to the page with his listing by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission

    http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults...

When the page opens, click on his name (in red)

There are several with the same name and regiment,

none are listed as a piper, but all give the details of next of kin, so are identifiable.

Do you perhaps have his service number, on a medal or plaque ? I cannot think of any other way to single him out from the others listed.

Advie is less than 18 miles from Elgin, where at least 3 of those listed were from, a fourth does not have his home listed.

Just had another look at the map, Advie is about 3 miles from Ballindalloch where the wife of Number 4 on the list lived when he died. I think we've found your man !!

It is actually 5.5 miles by road, between centres of the two places.

It says that Ballindalloch was in Banffshire, the county boundaries have since been altered and it is now in Morayshire, there is in any case only the one Ballindalloch.

    4.  GRANT, GEORGE  Private 9070 died 30/06/1916

age 29. Seaforth Highlanders. United Kingdom.

Son of George and Margaret Grant, of Elgin; husband of Margaret Ann Gordon Grant, of Lochenoir, Ballindalloch, Banffshire.

  2. You would be able to find him on 1901 census probably too if you had a few more details to identify him.

What other info do you have, any clues?

  3. find it out on a website. go to google and type it in.
