Piper Wagner in constant battle with cancer
It was something Piper Wagner would have never expected. Just when she was about to turn into a professional golf player, signs about her departure from the golf course began to make rounds. She began to suffer from constant coughing
accompanied with chest pains.
It was at that time when she thought of visiting a doctor for a proper check up and medical diagnosis. The only regret she has at present is that she should have done it earlier.
On proper diagnosis, it was revealed that the 42-year-old golfer, who had never smoked in her entire life, is suffering from lung cancer and that also of the third stage, a stage when expectations of curing the disease become increasingly
bleak.
The news came as a huge jolt for the golf player who had recently started playing golf on a professional scale.
"I realized I couldn't fix it or change it," said Wagner.
"I still go in and out of it, questioning why, but it is not as often".
According to the facts revealed by the American Cancer Society, up to 220,000 people suffer from this highly fatal disease on annual basis and these include people who are non-smokers.
Statistics further reveal that 10-15% of the people suffering from this type of cancer are usually non-smokers. The disease has emerged as one of the key mortality causes in the country at present.
News regarding Wagner’s diagnosis of cancer has topped all other news regarding golf, as there are various questions popping about her disease.
Anecdotal sources reveal that her suffering from cancer can either be from her diet or due to her overexposure to radon gas. However, so far unanimity on this issue has not been attained.
Jerry Olson, General Manager at Castlewood Country Club, said that her condition was constantly undergoing deterioration.
Moreover, from her condition it can be said that the infection might have been germinating in her body for some time.
Further medical data also discloses that her cancer is of malignant nature as the tumour has spread rapidly from her right lung to the region of her lymph nodes and is now making way to her arms and chest.
"Her cancer took a very aggressive course for a non smoker," said Dr. Shoba Kankipati, Wagner's oncologist.
It is also important to mention here that the golf community was ready to contribute their share of assistance by any means possible, as soon as the news regarding Wagner’s health reached them.
It was not the game of golf but the spirit of suffering from a fatal disease and continuously fighting it that actually touched many a people.
Even at a time when she is going through the toughest period of her life, Wagner is determined and hopeful that she will be able to overcome her disease and will get a chance in life to prove her golf skills.
