While the Spanish captain, Iker Casillas, was confused about how the World and European champions have to play the qualifiers, Pique believes that playing them is useful for the team.
Spain recently wrote their names in the history books as they became the only side to win the Euro twice in succession.
Not a single European team has managed to achieve this feat and after winning the Euro 2012, Spain became the only side to dominate the world of football for eight consecutive years.
Spain first won the European title back in 2008, after they managed to defeat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Torres’ goal settled the tie.
Later, they played the FIFA World Cup in 2010, which took place in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
Spain lost a single game throughout that competition and eventually won the World Cup as they faced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 in the final and it was Andres Iniesta who scored the winner for the World champions.
Spain then qualified for the Euro 2012 and even though they were pitted in a tough group consisting of Italy and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 4-0 to take the trophy home for the
second consecutive time.
Since Spain have accomplished so much in recent years, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 was surprised about how Spain have to play the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2014.
However, Gerard Pique thinks otherwise as he believes that playing in the qualifiers helps the team build a momentum and competition helps the team strengthen to become better for the future.
While speaking about playing the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2014, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique said:
“It is not bad to have the challenge of qualifying. It is true that the other way sees you guaranteed participation and that can give you great peace of mind when approaching the World Cup, but having competitive action is a challenge and a stimulus that
can be useful.”
