Pirates looking forward to putting stronger show in MLB `13 – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates had PiratesFest to rejoice and revel this weekend. What remained more delightful, however, was the interaction between the players and the fans. Be that as it may, there were a few things that the players acknowledged and vowed to
improve in days ahead.
One such aspect that elicited some sad recollection and concomitant reflection was the 2012 MLB season. It seemingly had a promising start for the Pirates, but as it progressed, things changed considerably, and the team finished it with 79-83 record.
The change was unexpected because the Pirates had a very successful first half, one that seemed to bring them a victory they had awaited for 20 years. But inauspicious and disappointing as the end was, the future has to be different.
That is what Andrew McCutchen believes in.
"Of course, it was frustrating. For all of us in the clubhouse," McCutchen admitted. "We just weren't able to maintain the consistency (to remain in the race). And you couldn't point fingers at any one player. It was definitely a collective effort."
Consistency, therefore, is key to move beyond where the club stands at the moment. Despite how things have transpired all this while, what is critical – and overwhelming for the Pirates, is the trust that the fans have reposed in them.
"(Getting out here) and meeting the fans who support us is important and actually, a lot of fun for us," McCutchen added.
Since the support is massive, and the Pirates are thankful for it, they want to make most of it in the days to come. Their first aim is to put the team on the winning track.
"We want to go out and put a winning team on the field (for them). We fell short the past two seasons. Now, we want to take it a step further."
The recent moves that the Pirates have made are inarguably quite significant. They vow to bring the kind of change the Bucs have been wishing to implement and see for quite a while. That alone can pave the way for a successful bid for NL Central title, and
a glory bigger than that.
