Pirelli boss Paul Hembery predicts a challenging Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery has predicted a challenging race at the Korea International Circuit among the most of the drivers.
The race will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in Korea.
The Italian tyre manufacturer, Pirelli recently confirmed that the sets of soft and supersoft tyres will be used at the Korean Grand Prix.
Hembery talked to the media and said that he is sure the race will be challenging among the drivers on the soft and supersoft compounds in Korea this weekend.
He commented, “We are trying to see where we are. If this race had happened after race two or three, then you would definitely be here with the hard and medium, you wouldn't possibly come here as we did. But we felt that we wanted to understand the limits
really.”
He told the media that after the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix, they had a lot of discussions with the drivers and engineers about the Korean race.
Hembery went on to mention, “A lot of them enjoy it and if you talk to some of the engineers they really get excited by it because they have a lot to think about and work about, and some like a pain in the a**e and something extra to worry about but the
public seem to like it a lot, which is the main thing for everybody.”
Apart from that, the Pirelli motorsport boss discussed the 2010 Korean race. He stated that they had rain last year and there was a lot of graining on the Bridgestone tyres.
Other than that, he mentioned that the drivers might be on a four-stop strategy in the 2011 Korean Grand Prix.
The sets of supersoft and soft tyres have already been used in the Monaco, Canada and Hungarian Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Most of the drivers got satisfactory results after using these compounds.
The current top three teams, which includes Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren have had good races on the soft and supersoft tyres in the ongoing season so far.
Let’s see how these teams perform in the upcoming Korean Grand Prix this weekend.
