Pirelli confirm hard tyres will not be used in rest of 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Pirelli have revealed that they will not use hard tyres in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season as they did not receive a positive response about their working from the drivers.
Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery has confirmed that they will not suggest the hard compounds to be used in remainder of the ongoing season again, as their working on the grid is still not satisfactory.
Hembery discussed the complaints about the hard tyres in the season so far. He mentioned that Ferrari were unable to perform well on these compounds in the initial races of this season and due to that they complained about their poor working during the races.
The Maranello-based outfit driver Felipe Massa recently told the media that they made a lot of struggle on these tyres and it constantly played an unsupportive role in the initial races, especially during the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hembery added that the hard compounds were not suitable for the aggressive circuits of Formula 1, so they have to find something between soft and medium compounds for the next races of the ongoing season.
Talking to reporters, Hembery said, “Well, I think we have to, because the circuits we are going to are really different again. If we could replicate that now with a new medium and a new hard then I think we'll be well placed.”
The Briton went on to add, “Singapore has the added question mark of rain, at night, in 40 degrees centigrade, which is a bizarre situation to be in, so that's going to be fascinating. I have to say I think we will have some other interesting scenarios and
we'll try and throw in some challenges ourselves.”
Apart from that, he mentioned that Pirelli is delighted for receiving a positive response in the season so far in terms of tyre degradation and other compounds’ working. He praised the supersoft, soft and medium compounds, as these tyres have done a great
job so far.
For the next 2011 Belgium Grand Prix, Pirelli has suggested medium and soft compounds for Formula 1 teams and these will again be used in Italy.
Other than the Belgium and Italian Grands Prix, an Italian tyre manufacturer confirmed the tyres for the Singapore Grand Prix. They announced that the sets of supersoft and soft tyres will be taken in Singapore.
The 12th round of the ongoing season will be held on August 28, 2011 at the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack in Belgium.
