Pirelli confirm tyre compounds for Belgium, Italy and Singapore Grands Prix – Formula 1 news
Italian tyre manufacturers Pirelli have recently announced that the medium and soft compounds will be used in the next two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, which will take place in Belgium and Italy respectively.
Pirelli also confirmed that for the 2011 Singapore race, Pirelli will take the sets of soft and supersoft tyres.
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery talked to the media and stated that they are learning race-by-race in their first season in Formula 1. He admitted that they received positive response from the drivers so far about the working of the Pirelli tyres
in the ongoing season.
Talking to reporters, Hembery said, “We've got three of the most thrilling races on the entire calendar coming up, and we believe that we've arrived at some tyre nominations that are very well-suited to the characteristics of these very different but equally
exciting circuits.”
He went on to mention, “Of course there will always be some unknown factors - such as the weather - but the choices we have made are designed to help teams maximise both their performance and their race strategy.”
Formula 1 teams’ drivers had complained about too much degradation of the Pirelli tyres after testing them in the 2011 pre-season test session. However, when the season started, most of the drivers enjoyed their races on the new Pirelli tyres, as these tyres
worked unexpectedly on the racetracks and provided the drivers a comfortable run.
Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa discussed with the media that they were not comfortable on soft compounds by Pirelli, as these tyres did not provide them an easy run on the grid in the initial races of this season. Both of the drivers added
that they struggled a lot on soft tyres in the Canadian Grand Prix, but they could not understand the behaviour of the tyres during that.
Most of the teams are satisfied with the 2011 Formula 1 Pirelli tyres. Let’s see how these tyres work in the next three rounds of the ongoing season.
