Pirelli dismiss criticism on 2012 tyre compounds – Formula 1 news
Pirelli's motorsport director, Paul Hembery has discharged all the assertions against their tyres and has said that the success in the races is dependent on the abilities of the drivers and team engineers rather than solely on the tyre compounds.
Moreover, he said that there have been four different winners in the four races of the season so far who ran on entirely different cars’ setups. He added that everyone has received the same chances to deliver the best perform on track while he said that
only the capabilities of the driver complemented with the work of the engineers can bring victory for the teams in this season.
“The season so far has been fantastic: we've had four different winners and four different Championship leaders,” Hembery said. “So the competition has never been closer and part of that is down to the fact that everyone has exactly the same opportunities
and challenges with the tyres. It is down to them to make the best of it. Formula 1 has always been a meritocracy; in the end the best engineers and drivers will always succeed.”
Conversely, the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher has criticised the latest Pirelli tyres after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix as he faced the issue of tyre degradation.
“I had to drive at a pace to manage the tyres to finish with tyres left over,” he said. “We should question whether that should be the case.”
Contrarily, on this statement, Hembery said that the German driver was very happy with the performance of the tyres during the pre-season testing programme. Meanwhile, he said that he don’t understand that why Schumacher changed his stance after the Bahrain
GP.
It would important to mention that Schumacher has performed quite well in the qualifying of the opening three races of the season, however, he has not been able to convert his competitive grid positions into podium finishes.
Furthermore, in the fourth race at Sakhir, he could only qualify for the 22nd place in the grid after facing five-place gird penalty due to his gearbox change.
Nevertheless, he finished at tenth place in the race which is quite a reasonable performance.
