Pirelli going to start work on silver marking tyres – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Italian supplier brand Pirelli has updated the media that they have to start work on silver marking tyres as that was blurred a bit with the original black colour of the rubber over the Australian Grand Prix.
Before the start of the Melbourne race Pirelli revealed the final marking of different types of tyres for the 2011 season. Pirelli mentioned that each tyre will carry its own affixed colouring on the side-wall.
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery told the media, “We're very excited by the prospect of returning to Formula 1 for the first time in 20 years, and we're aiming to be a proactive and colourful partner in Formula 1. So what better way to symbolise
this than a brightly coloured selection of Pirelli logos to run on the sidewalls?”
Before the Melbourne event, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) officials announced that hard and soft compounds of Pirelli tyres will be used in the Australia, Malaysia and China races.
With regards to the winter testing, all teams were busy testing on the different compounds of tyres. However, some F1 drivers highly criticised the Pirelli rubber, during their test runs.
On the other hand, Pirelli test driver Pedro de la Rosa has discussed the Pirelli tyres working until now and said that the drivers definitely expect a lot from the tyres during the 2011 races as their package run mostly depends on these tyres but they would
have used the best strategy to overcome the degradation issue over their races.
Hembery added about the current situation of tyres marking, “I thought the yellow was very clear. Looking at the images throughout the race on the television screens, I don't think there was any doubt watching the cars with the yellow markings.”
Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello shared his thoughts about compounds colours and admitted after his race that Pirelli colours system need something different for the viewers.
He went on to say, “If you have a frozen image you can see on the picture what it is. But, on a running car, you can't see what tyres someone is running. So imagine what it is like in the grandstand.”
The tyre degradation issue was greatly expected in Australian Grand Prix but Pirelli was surprised when they found the Sauber driver Sergio Perez who only took one pitstop in the entire race.
The Malaysian Grand Prix will be the second race of this season that is starting on April 10, 2011 in Sepang.
