Pirelli hoping to increase tyre compound choices until Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
According to a recent announcement by Pirelli, it has been revealed that the lone tyre suppliers of the sport are hoping of increasing the amount of tyre compound choices for the teams until the Hungarian Grand Prix.
At the upcoming British Grand Prix though, the teams will be provided with the usual soft and hard compounds despite the fact that they introduced the medium compound tyres for the German Grand Prix.
Nevertheless, Paul Hembery, the motorsport boss of Pirelli has stated that the tyre suppliers are hoping of making the sport even better as a result of which, they will provide the teams with the supersoft tyres as well at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“There has been a lot of comment in the last few weeks about the choice for Silverstone. We obviously have 12 teams that we work with, and having introduced the hard compound in Barcelona we wanted to take the opportunity to see the new medium compound in
race conditions,” Hembery told the media.
Other than that, Paul claims that the new hard tyres, which were introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix, are working pretty well while the medium compound tyres were the older hard tyres according to some of the drivers.
Hembery added that he is expecting the teams to go for a three-stop strategy at Silverstone after evaluating the current degradation rate of both of the compounds which are going to be available for the teams at the upcoming race weekend.
“Since Istanbul we have developed the new harder compound and that will assist obviously in terms of ware rate. The strategy plans we've seen from the teams indicate a three-stop, possibly four-stop - we'll probably be in and around that area,” he said.
The motorsport boss of Pirelli also stated that Silverstone is one of the harder circuits of the season but since there have been some renovations at the venue, the surface of the track is going to be quite unpredictable. Let’s see how it turns out to be.
