Pirelli hoping to stay with Formula 1 for a long period of time – Formula 1 news
The 2011 tyre suppliers of Formula 1 have recently revealed that they are hoping to stay as the sport’s lone tyre suppliers for a long period of time.
Marco Tronchetti Provera, the president of Pirelli recently stated while he was in Turkey that after meeting the Formula 11 drivers at the Istanbul Park, he is now aware that his company has achieved its target up until now and they are going to achieve
their targets in the future as well.
He added that they are looking forward to increase their deal with the organisers of the sport as they are just signed for 3 years as the sport’s lone tyre suppliers.
“If it is a formula that is not too costly, we are ready to continue,” he told the media.
According to some reports, Provera is open to a tyre war similar to the one between Bridgestone and Michelin which came to an end in 2006.
“We are open. It's always a question of costs. It can be challenging,” stated the organisers.
Pirelli has changed the quality of the sport by a margin as most of the critics believe that the main reason for the sport’s success this year up until now are the new tyres. The Kinetic Energy Recovery System and Drag Reduction System have not been as promising
and resulting as the International Automobile Federation (FIA) expected.
Because of the quick degradation of the new tyres, the teams are now opting for at least a two-pit strategy unlike 2010 when most of the drivers ran for a one-pit strategy using one pair of hard tyres and one of soft tyres for the whole race.
Since the number of pit stops has increased, the activity in the pits by the team has increased as well and now, the factor of a race strategy affects the results of the sport drastically because of which the unpredictability level of the sport has also
increased immensely.
