Pirelli is still improving – Romain Grosjean
The 2010 Formula 1 season was quite unpredictable and exhilarating but at the same time the fans were somewhat disappointed by Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher, as their performance this year was not up to the mark .
However, both of them complained constantly about the tyre compounds Bridgestone introduced and they said that they were not getting used to the grip level of those tyres. Later on, Bridgestone decided to depart from the sport and the question remained that
who would take their spot since Michelin did not want to return to the sport as the lone tyre suppliers.
Therefore, it was revealed that the FIA signed a deal with Pirelli for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that the tyre suppliers are quite excited about entering the sport as the lone tyre suppliers.
Pirelli held a couple of test sessions with Nick Heidfeld at first and then later on with Pedro de la Rosa and now Romain Grosjean. After the 2010 Formula 1 season came to an end, almost all of the Formula 1 drivers also got to test the tyres for the first
time and it seems that Michael was quite happy with the work Pirelli has put in.
Nevertheless, Romain Grosjean is quite confident about the new tyres and claims that the tyres are improving even more after he tested the new rubber in Bahrain a week ago.
“The programme was quite diverse, including sequences of short and long runs, to understand the behaviour of the compounds," he said. "I immediately felt an improvement over the tyres that I had used at Monza,” said Romain.
Grosjean tested the tyres for the first time back in September after Nick Heidfeld left for joining Sauber as a replacement for Pedro de la Rosa. After testing the tyre recently on a Toyota, Grosjean believes there is even more room for improvement.
Other than that, Pirelli is expected to test their tyres before the 2011 Formula 1 season with a full grid on the 1st of February hopefully at the Spanish circuit in Valencia.
