Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery defends the compounds – Formula 1 news
Pirelli maintains that their compounds will not be deciding the winner rather the best driver and the best team will still come out to be winner of the season.
Most teams and drivers are looking into the tyres for strategies and realise that they will play an important role in the season’s winner outcome.
The easy tyre degradation of the Pirelli tyres have led teams to look into minor details of the tracks and make sure of how many pit stops are going to be enough. Force India driver Paul di Resta was the only driver to go with a two stop strategy at Bahrain
and did a good enough job considering he started the race from tenth place.
Michael Schumacher after the Bahrain Grand Prix said that the new generation Pirelli tyres degrade too quickly. Pirelli though have defended their compounds and said that Schumacher did not complain during the pre-season testing.
Still the major change the Pirelli tyres have brought in the game is because of their tyre degradations which has been praised by former drivers and followers of the sport. It bring excitement to the game and also another dimension where teams have to look
into strategising with different venues and weather conditions.
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery says that the tyres are helping produce exciting races while still allowing the best engineers and driver to shine.
“The season so far has been fantastic: we've had four different winners and four different championship leaders,” Hembery told AUTOSPORT. “So the competition has never been closer and part of that is down to the fact that everyone has exactly the same opportunities
and challenges with the tyres.”
“It is down to them to make the best of it. Formula 1 has always been a meritocracy; in the end the best engineers and drivers will always succeed,” he added.
The European leg of the season is about to start in three weeks time with the Spanish Grand Prix. Weather conditions will be much cooler than they were in Bahrain, Malaysia and China. It will be interesting to see how the tyres behave and what kind of strategies
the teams go with.
