Pirelli plan to introduce ‘more distinctive’ tyre markings for Turkish GP – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Italian tyres manufacturer Pirelli has planned to introduce some more different coloured tyres markings for the 2011 Turkish Grand Prix, as there were complaints that these markings on various compounds are barely visible in races.
After the first two races of 2011 season, held in Australia and Malaysia, Pirelli added some more stripes on the sidewalls of the tyres, but those have proven to be difficult for viewers to distinguish during the races.
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said, “From Turkey you will see a new marking on the tyres. The colours will be full colours on the sidewall and it will look much more significant the amount of colour we put in so the black can't get in the way
when it's spinning. It will become far more visible.”
After the Australian GP, Hembery discussed the colour markings and added, “I thought the yellow was very clear. Looking at the images throughout the race on the television screens, I don't think there was any doubt watching the cars with the yellow markings.”
Pirelli has added a golden stripe on the sidewalls of the soft compound tyres, after getting poor feedback about these markings. In addition, they have done some work on the silver marked tyres, as these were not visible in the Australia race.
Rubens Barrichello of Williams shared his idea about the compounds colours and said during the race he observed that Pirelli colours system should show something very different to its viewers.
The tyres performance during the Malaysian GP was very impressive, as the drivers took only one or two pit stops in the race, while F1 teams had predicted three to four stops for the Sepang race, due to the high temperature of track.
In the Chinese GP, Pirelli again put its upbeat results ahead of the viewers, as there were no major problems with the tyres during the race and all the drivers were happy with the supportive work of these tyres.
On the other hand, Pirelli replaced its driver Pedro de la Rosa with GP2 series driver Lucas di Grassi, as Rosa accepted the offer from McLaren team recently.
After three successful events, Pirelli are expecting a positive feedback from the drivers in the remaining races of the season.
