Pirelli plans to introduce more aggression tyres at Hungaroring – Formula 1 News
Pirelli motorsport director, Paul Hembery has said that they have planned to introduce more aggressive tyres in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix which is to be held at Hungaroring
on July 28.
The Italian company faced a lot of criticism over their brittle compound after the five unpleasant incidents of tyre explosion in the British Grand Prix which raised the safety
concerns for everyone in the sport. Nevertheless, they came up with stronger rear tyres in the German GP to ensure the safety of the F1 drivers.
Hembery has said that they have decided to show up with more aggressive tyre compound in the forthcoming race. He stated that they will go to the Hungaroring with the soft and medium
tyre compound. In addition, he insisted that the teams may have to take more pit stops in the approaching race.
“I think you'll see this same kind of combination again,” Hembery said when asked by ESPN if the soft tyre's performance would cause Pirelli to rethink its plans. “I think it's
quite right that we are going to Hungary with the soft and medium; if you went soft and super-soft I think it might end up with four stops for everybody and they're all really struggling. Here you see the two contrasts and I think we'll see something similar
in Hungary.”
“[At the Nurburgring] we were one and a half seconds, nearly two second quicker than we were here two years ago,” he added.
Besides, he said that the teams have been testing the tyres with the limits due to which they face high degradation issues. Nonetheless, he asserted that they have planned to introduce
harder compound in the upcoming races so that they don’t face any criticism from anyone.
It will be important to mention that after the secret Pirelli test, Mercedes gained a lot more pace as compared to their rivals. However, according to the team principal of the
Silver Arrows, Ross Brawn, they struggled with the high tyre degradation issue with the new compound at Nurburgring.
Let’s see how all the contenders perform in the season ahead with the new tyres.
