Pirelli reject reports of favouring Ferrari in 2011 Formula 1 championship – Formula 1 news
Pirelli recently revealed that the teams will be allowed to use soft and medium tyre compounds for the upcoming races in Belgium and Italy as a result of which, reports claim that Pirelli are favouring Ferrari which according to the lone tyre suppliers is
not true.
Other than that, Pirelli also revealed that the teams will be allowed to use soft and super soft tyre compounds at the Singapore Grand Prix. As a result, reports claim that this is a clear sign that Pirelli are trying to favour Ferrari since their car is
expected to perform better than the rest at these tracks with these tyre compounds specifically.
According to Paul Hembery, the motorsport director of Pirelli, the lone tyre suppliers will never do such a thing.
“No. I read what is in the press at the end of the work day, but nothing more. There are some compounds that best suit some people, in other cases it depends on the track or the weather. It's very difficult to generalise,” said Hembery.
Pirelli has been doing a very good job up until now as they have introduced some new tyre compounds this year that is the super soft tyres and the medium compound tyres. These two tyre compounds have been praised by most of the teams and it has been revealed
that these compounds will be used next year as well but in a different form.
Other than that, these new tyres have definitely changed the mood of the sport as well in a positive way as the teams are now reliant on their strategies more than their qualifying. In the 2010 Formula 1 season however, qualifying was more dominant as a
result of which racing became quite predictable.
This season has been quite unpredictable and each race offers a different experience. The new gadgets on the other hand have been criticised but one has to admit that Pirelli has improved the sport in many ways and by the looks of it, the 2012 Formula 1
season might be even better.
