Pirelli replies back to the criticism of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel
The Italian tyre producer, Pirelli, replied back to the drivers who criticised the new tyres for degrading faster. The manufacturers said that the tyres are made just the way many of the teams and FIA demanded.
The 2011 Formula 1 season will now begin at the end of March, since the Bahrain GP, has been plucked off the calendar for the time being, owing to the ongoing riots in the country. So far, three pre-season test sessions have already taken place while the
last one will be held next week in Barcelona.
A statement by the manufactures issued earlier today, stated, "The increased degradation is a feature specifically requested by the teams and the organisers to improve the show. This is an opportunity for the sport, not a problem. What must be said is that
we have not run with optimum conditions in the official winter testing, both in terms of temperatures too low and the track conditions."
It was further reported, "We hope that in Barcelona for next week's test there are the conditions to allow everyone to verify the real performance of our tyres. We will continue to work closely with the teams and pay great attention to their feedback."
The announcement came in response to the concerns expressed by the two-time World Champion and Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso. He said that the rubber degraded too fast, which will increase the number of pit stops in every race. He proclaimed that he was
not very keen on that because he believed that the strongest teams would not benefit by this feature of the tyres.
Moreover, the reigning World Champion and Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel also said the new tyres degraded by every 16 or 17 laps. He added that the additional pit stops will make race tougher for the forerunners as after a certain number of laps these
tyres are totally dead, no matter what the driver does.
Nevertheless, the Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone and many of the race experts believe that this will bring a lot of thrill and drama on the tracks as pit stops can change the race results dramatically.
