Pirelli satisfied with the results after their official wet tyres test session in Abu Dhabi
The lone tyre suppliers of Formula 1 recently carried out their official wet tyres test session in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina Circuit during the night. Pirelli recently revealed that they are satisfied with the results of their new wet tyres.
The track was artificially soaked and it is expected that the teams will get their hands on the tyres for the first time at the first pre-season test session that is expected to begin on the 1st of February in Valencia.
This was the final solo testing by Pirelli and Paul Hembery, motorsports director, believes that his company is now ready for the challenges ahead of them.
“It's been an extremely positive test session here in Abu Dhabi, thanks to the fantastic facilities we've had available to us and the usual hard work from Pedro [de la Rosa] and the rest of our team,” he said.
He stated that Pirelli is proud to be a part of Formula 1 and they believe that they won’t disappoint the teams or drivers at any point during the 2011 Formula 1 season. They believe that they have created a tyre compound which is quite different from the
one’s Bridgestone has been producing in the past couple of years.
Their official test driver Pedro de la Rosa was also satisfied with the result and he believes that the new tyres will make Formula 1 even more spicy and exciting. The tests were carried out using a Toyota TF-109 throughout both the six hour sessions.
“The dry tyre test went very well, and confirmed everything we had learned in Bahrain the week before. But the most original part of the test was when we were running at night on the wet tyres, which was as new an experience for me as it was for everyone
else,” said Pedro.
Other than that, he believes that both dry and wet tyres are very reliable and the major change due to these tyres is going to be that most of the teams will now opt for a two or three pit strategy per race rather than just a single pit strategy.
“In my opinion, Pirelli is ready now for Formula One. The most important thing was that the water levels were consistent, which allowed us to have some accurate results from the test,” he added.
